Warm Home Discount 2025: Helping you stay warm this winter

For a lot of households, keeping up with the rising cost of energy can be a real worry.

The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme that offers £150 towards the energy costs of the households struggling with the cost of heating their homes.

What is the Warm Home Discount?

The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme introduced to help households struggling with the cost of heating their homes. Eligible households receive a one-off payment of £150 towards the cost of their energy.

Who is eligible?

The eligibility criteria and whether you need to apply does depend on where you live.

In England and Wales, customers do not need to apply. If you are eligible, you will receive a letter from HM government confirming that you will receive the £150 rebate.

Scotland has 2 groups, the Core Group and the Broader Group. You do not need to apply if you’re in the Core Group, however you do need to apply for the Broader Group rebate. The discount is available on a first come, first served basis to those who apply and are eligible.

How and when is the discount paid?

If it is confirmed that you are eligible to receive the Warm Home Discount rebate, this will be paid towards your energy by 31st March 2026.

What can you do now?

If you think you may be eligible, here’s what you can do next.

  • Look out for your letter

  • Letters are being sent by HM Government between October 2025 and January 2026.
  • Apply if you live in Scotland

  • If you think you may be eligible for the Scottish Broader Group, you will need to apply through your energy supplier, so keep an eye out for their application window.
  • Keep your details up to date

  • Make sure your contact details are up to date with your energy supplier.
  • Not received a letter?

  • Remember, your energy supplier does not decide which households are eligible to receive the WHD. If you think you are eligible and have not received a letter, you can contact the WHD helpline before 28th February 2026.
